Late Summer Woodsy Sideboard and Mantel

I haven't been motivated to change up the sideboard or mantel ... until today that is!  In fact, yesterday I was just telling my husband that I was going to leave what was there until September so I could transition directly into Fall decor - even though the sideboard and mantel had not been changed since the early spring.  Well, then I woke up feeling all motivated to change things up.

I got the faux bois vases last week at Loblaws so had to include them.  The dried wheat is my nod to it being August and that Fall is right around the corner.

I know there are birds everywhere these days, but I needed something to break up all the symmetry of two large and two small vases and two turquoise sap buckets.

I even have a matching vintage tablecloth out.  Please excuse the wrinkles, but I just didn't feel like ironing it.

Let's spend a little time considering how lovely faux bois vases are.  I love the squiggly lines and the fake knots.  Love.  Them.

At the same time I thought I would change up the mantel.  I stuck with the woodsy look that I had happening on the sideboard.

I put out some of my best birchbark,

and some driftwood sticks along with my aged metal sap bucket and lanterns.

Do you change up your mantel and sideboard with the seasons?  I like to, but I don't always get around to it.

  1. The birch bark! That is just so cool. I had some once and I got rid of it, but now I'm moved away from my source! Those faux bois vases are stunning too. I'll have to keep my eye out for those! Loblaws always has the best home stuff.

  2. Very pretty! I love that the white and aqua can look summery and the wheat hints at Fall -perfect for this time of year. The wood 'risers' are a great idea too.

  3. Ooo, I love the color combo. Yes, I try and change the decor in my living room each month. I have special knick knacks and colors that I display and I mix them with some standard pieces like my old telephone and typewriter which I keep out most of the year. I have to admit that sometimes I get busy and especially thru the spring and summer, I leave the same decor up for a couple of months. :) Kit

  4. Looking good! The wheat is the perfect element for this time of year. The farmers are taking off the wheat around here as I write this! Doesn't Loblaws have the coolest decor items? And for next to no $$$$!

  5. Oh Grace this is so you...I love it. I am switching things up constantly and sometimes it gets a little ridiculous. :o) I enjoy it though and I guess that makes it OK. Have a good week. It's rainy and just a little chilly here today. Definitely feels like fall.

  6. Very lovely mantel! Where did you get the white ceramic looking trunk from, so adorable!

  7. Very pretty! I love the blue and white together with the wheat. Stopping by from Wow Us Wednesday.
