Friday Photos - Hepatica and Other Spring Flowers

My parents, my husband and I went for a hike in a nearby woods last weekend.  There are still a lot of dried brown leaves around, but we did manage to find some early flowers, a couple of butterflies, and a chorus of croaking frogs.
Nothing says early spring like the first hepatica flowers in the woods.
( photo above taken by my mother)

The hepatica flowers ranged in colour from white to lilac to mauve to periwinkle.
(photo above taken by my husband)

There were also bloodroot flowers (terrible name, I know).

and Dutchman's Breeches.

and a few Mourning Cloak butterflies (thank you for holding still Mr. Butterfly while I took your photo).

  3. Are those all wild? Or can I get some at the nursery?

  4. Grace, what a lovely place to take a walk, and it looks like you are a family of photographers as well!

  5. Such beautiful pictures Grace! I am so excited for our flowers to start blooming soon!

  6. Hi Grace! I noticed that you commented on my blog (The Modern Brady Bunch)and I hopped on over to see yours! I love the New Friend Friday bloglinks! I love the pictures of the flowers on your blog! I seem to never be able to stay still long enough for the camera to catch a flower- I am chasing kids all the time! Thanks for commenting on my post- I will make sure to stop back to see what is happening on your blog! I love making new friends!

  7. Thanks for all the compliments. I love seeing the spring flowers every year.

As far as I know they are only wild plants and are not available at the garden centre. I doubt they would even transplant well, as most forest flowers don't.

  8. Beautiful flowers Grace! Thanks so much for taking us on a walk with you!

    Kat :)

  9. How pretty! Little flowers like this, that just seem to sprout up unexpectedly are my favorite of all. They're like Spring's presents to us...cheerful and sweet.
