My parents, my husband and I went for a hike in a nearby woods last weekend. There are still a lot of dried brown leaves around, but we did manage to find some early flowers, a couple of butterflies, and a chorus of croaking frogs.
Nothing says early spring like the first hepatica flowers in the woods.

The hepatica flowers ranged in colour from white to lilac to mauve to periwinkle.

There were also bloodroot flowers (terrible name, I know).
and a few Mourning Cloak butterflies (thank you for holding still Mr. Butterfly while I took your photo).

Thanks for all the compliments. I love seeing the spring flowers every year.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know they are only wild plants and are not available at the garden centre. I doubt they would even transplant well, as most forest flowers don't.
Beautiful flowers Grace! Thanks so much for taking us on a walk with you!
ReplyDeleteKat :)
How pretty! Little flowers like this, that just seem to sprout up unexpectedly are my favorite of all. They're like Spring's presents to us...cheerful and sweet.
