Cardinals in our Backyard

At first we could hear its song and we could see it in our neighbour's tree. Then it came in closer.

And closer still.

And then he called the Mrs. over.

When you live in a 12-year old subdivision and see a pair of cardinals it is noteworthy.  About 5 years ago we spotted our first cardinal, just in for a brief visit.  This pair, however, have been around all day.  I guess our trees are finally big enough for a pair of cardinals to move in and call it home.

Does she look like she's gathering dried grass to make a nest?

Is she looking a little plump to you?  Cause we're hoping they'll call this home.

  1. What incredibly lovely birds. I do hope they stick around and we can get to see more of them.

  7. I love Cardinals. We had a pair living in our backyard the whole time we lived in Niagara.
If you put feeders out for them (which they really need come winter but start in Sept.) and water they will stay. They don't just need trees they also like dense brush to hide in.
Hope they stay they are so lovely to enjoy!

  8. Beautiful photos. We had robins on the weekend, and often see jays and hummingbirds but I haven't seen cardinals here for a while. My married nephew has a Christmas tree full of Cardinal bird decorations due to his former school and his momma's shopping ocd :)

  9. There were so many cardinals in Tennessee. They must go to your part of the country for the summer.
