WISH Wednesday #30

I am a big fan of Michael Penney's style and have followed his blog since it started.  I wanted to show a calm beachy bedroom for WISH Wednesday and thought Michael's is one of the best.  It was inspired by a trip he and his wife took to Maine and you can really feel that beachy vibe coming through.  I love the soft natural colours, the gorgeous wallpaper, the white drapes, and the bare hardwood floor.  His bedroom makes me want to move to a cottage by the ocean.

These were the only two photos I could find of his bedroom so I included them both.  The top one shows more of the bedroom, but is less clear and crisp and the second photo has the arrow in the middle, but shows the detail in the wallpaper and the knit pillow on the bed.

Michael is one thrifty guy - you should check out the rest of his house for further inspiration (click on the links under the photos to see more pictures). Michael has recently opened a shop called Penney & Co. in Whitby, Ontario - one of these weekends I'm going to make the trek out there and check it out.

Supermoon

This weekend we had a supermoon.  Did you have one too?  I'm not sure exactly what a supermoon is - it was much bigger than normal, but there was no cape or anything.


We all went to the hill in the nearby park to watch the moon rise.  At first I took lots of pictures of the moon disappearing and then reappearing behind some clouds.  

Then it struck me how much the dandelion puffs looked like little moons all over the hill and I spent ages taking pictures of puffs and the moon.  

Now that's my idea of a fun Saturday evening.

Sweet Dreams Pillowcases

Last May our oldest son got married (you can see pictures of the wedding here and here) which means that their first wedding anniversary is coming up soon.  

I thought it would be fun to decorate some pillowcases to give to them as a present to celebrate the occasion.  I had a look on Pintrest for ideas and naturally there were lots of cute pillowcases, but I especially loved these ones so they served as my inspiration. 

I bought some white pillowcases and set to work drawing the thought bubbles on the pillowcases using my new Sharpie Fabric Pens. I also added the words "Sweet Dreams" on the hem of the pillowcases.  And just in case you think I have the neatest hand-writing ever (haha) I printed out the words from the computer and put them under the cloth and traced them.

Isn't this the sweetest, most inspiring place to paint - I just had to show you for WISH Wednesday (Weekly Inspiration for a Seasonal Home). 

Going Home to Roost

The owner of the home - Bonnie from Going Home to Roost - set this area up in her living room as a little painting area.  I love the bright light coming in through the window, and the paints all lined up on the trays, and the driftwood mobile hanging in the window, and the shelf with plants overhead, and most of all, I adore the little desk with barley-twist legs.  I would be inspired to paint here, if I had this in my home - oh and I would paint like Monet, I'm sure of it!  You can see more photos of the home here - light and bright rule the day!  Anyone else inspired to paint.

Project 6:30 - Tuna Potato Patties

We made our first Project 6:30 dinner - that's right a dinner that takes fewer than six ingredients and less than thirty minutes to cook (see here for details).  I thought I would share the recipe with you in case you know a young person just learning to cook or even for yourself if you want to put a nutritious delicious dinner on the table with minimal effort.

Last week Kate made Tuna Potato Patties - they were simple to make and tasted great.  It is easiest to make this dish using leftover mashed potatoes and cooked carrots so plan ahead folks and make extra the night before.

TUNA POTATO PATTIES

Ingredients:

• 4 large potatoes, peeled, chopped, and cooked until tender
• margarine (I don't usually measure how much I use in mashed potatoes, but about 3 tablespoons should work)
• milk (again I don't usually measure, but about 1/2 cup of milk to start with and add more as needed to get a nice moist consistency)
• 4 carrots, sliced and cooked until tender
• 1 tin tuna, drained
• 1 egg
• whole wheat flour (about 1/2 a cup)
• salt and pepper

Method:

1.  Mash the cooked potatoes and carrots with margarine and milk.

2.  Add the tuna and egg to the mashed potatoes and carrots.

3.  Form the mash into balls about the size of an apple and then flatten.

4.  Mix whole wheat flour and salt and pepper together.

5.  Dip the flattened patties into the flour mix.

6.  Heat oil in a frying pan and cook the patties on medium-low heat for about ten minutes or until they are cooked. 

Serve with another vegetable or a salad for a really well-rounded dinner.
