Bits and Bobs and Dogs

A random assortment of happenings -

1)  We started the advent calendars yesterday.  I sent ones to the kids living away from home (which you can read about here), but frankly I was tired of cutting envelopes and punching holes and tying ribbon so for William, who is still at home, I used the felt snowman advent calendar that we used when they the kids were young.  In case you were wondering what a 16 year old boy wants to find in his advent calendar, have a look at the photo below.  It looks like I stuck a bunch of treats to the wall.  He's happy though.

2)  I've been rather lucky recently in finding treasures at the thrift store and antique store.  I found this Villeroy and Boch pitcher with a sweet little winter scene on it (the lid is missing, but I can live with that),

this old blue canning jar ( now I have two - yeah!),

some vintage (or possibly just vintage-looking) Christmas ornaments,

and these lovely old gingerbread trim pieces.

I was thinking of putting them above the sliding door as I have always thought it looked a bit bare up there.  What do you think?  Should they be resting on the trim or hung a few inches above the trim???

3)  And finally, you just never know what you will find at Eddie Bauer these days.

  1. Grace, your advent calendar is the cutest thing I've ever seen :D I think I need to start shopping @ Eddie Bauer again (the one close to me moved). I love puppies! BTW the trim looks so pretty. I love old chippy architectural goodies. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. First off, Happy December to you, Grace* love this tour of parts of your home... that moulding looks fabulous there, and I love your jar. Apparently, the more blue the better! I wish I could go shopping with you—I just came across a shop and they had about 10 different sizes, colors, etc. I bought two more for the collection—for loose teas :) Your dog is so so cute!

    Have a wonderful Thursday,
    xo

  5. The perfect Advent calendar for a teenage boy! My boys never quite "got" the thrill of fiddling with bows and strings - they just wanted the "goodies". Love your gingerbread trim. Can't quite make it out - but is it aged timber? If it were mine I think I would have it on my kitchen windowsill and string some fairy lights behind it. That way all the beautiful shapes would really sparkle. ;)Sharyne

  6. What great finds! And that advent calendar is my kind of calendar, yum! I love the gingerbread pieces just as they are, resting right on the trim above your door, they look perfect there! And I'll have to stop by an Eddie Bauer store if they are offering such darling wares this year! Glad Kate made it home safely!
