Yesterday we went to St. Jacobs a quaint small town here in Ontario that is the home community for many Mennonites living in the area, including many old order Mennonites. The market and the nearby village are a lovely place to visit that take you back to a slower gentler time. We bought fresh fruit and vegetables, walked among the stalls as they were beginning to collapse the market since we got there later in the day, and went to the village to stroll through antiques stores, and admire the Mennonite quilts.

One of my favourite places for a day trip.
ReplyDeleteGuess where we were last Tuesday? St. Jacobs and Elmira! The boys love going to the stock exchange, and I pick up fresh veggies at the market. We always stop to eat in Elmira at At The Crossroads, the buffet has so many choices and the desserts are devine! The gift shop at At The Crossroads is fantastic, as is the quilt shop.
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos. That looks and sounds like a place I'd love to visit. Have a terrific week :)

Looks like a wonderful place to visit. I love the mural on the building. My mouth is watering ... fresh fruit!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't be to St. Jacobs for a few years now but really enjoy it when we do go. Both of my corn brooms are handmade from there and look like they may last a life time.

ReplyDeleteI would love to visit St. Jacobs one day. I just never seem to travel over to that part of the province. I found your blog via Mosaic Monday and see we both live in Ontario.
ReplyDeleteExcellent mosaic. My late FIL was Mennonite, he grew up on a farm but really liked the city life. He was a quiet man.
ReplyDeleteLove the mural too. MB
Grace, your photos are so beautiful and really convey the sense of utilitarian beauty that is key to the place. Thanks so much for sharing at MM. :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!! You did a great job of showcasing a beautiful lifestyle!! So wish I was close enough to visit.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I was at St Jacobs, but your photos brought it back. We used to go for a quilt auction in the spring, and then load up the car with baked goods and unique crafts. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
