The Kitchen Party

I work in an office with 5 other Speech-Language Pathologists and man can we talk we occasionally look up from our work and exchange a few words.  One of our favourite topics is discussing decorating projects.

One of my co-workers, who lives in an older home, was having her kitchen totally re-done.  Needless to say we all helped with the paint, tile and counter selection.  It has taken many months and the kitchen is now complete so we all gathered for, what else, but a kitchen party, which involved admiring the kitchen, chatting in the kitchen, and eating in the kitchen.

She gave me permission to snap a few pictures to show you.  Unfortunately it was nighttime so the lighting is not the best, but you can still see how fantastic her kitchen is.  We all loved, loved, loved it.  It looks so warm, fresh and inviting.  She did an amazing job.  I guess all those months eating take-out food and using a cooler were worth it.
Isn't that backsplash to die for.  Here's a closer shot.
And even closer.

The darker tiles are actually copper and they have a gorgeous golden hue to them, that just isn't showing up in the photos.

And one more of the other side.

I wasn't able to get one of the fridge, sink area as there were too many people and too. much. food!!!
She is still going to have a valance or roman blinds made for her windows and I did suggest that she get some under-counter lighting, because I'm nice like that, always making suggestions.

Next on her reno list is her bathroom.  The bathroom party should be fun!

My Little Girl is all Grown Up

This is what my daughter wore 17 years ago -
and this -
and other cute little dresses.

These days it is not so much cute little dresses, as jeans, jeans, jeans, and did I mention jeans?   I have to admit, that although I love my teens, a part of me misses them when they were little, and that is partially because I miss the cute outfits they wore.  We have saved a few special outfits from each of the children but never did much with them.

A few years ago I started noticing that bedrooms or dressing rooms are often shown with a pretty outfit hung out on display.

See what I mean?  How cute is that dressing room with the gorgeous coat hung out just waiting to be worn.

See there's another one - a glamorous dressing room with the dress hanging out on display.

That got me to thinking, while I don't have a dressing room, or even a spot to hang something in my bedroom, we did have a bare spot at the end of the upstairs hall, just crying out for cute-ification.   What better way than with Kate's baby dresses?  We change them a few times a year and I love seeing them when I walk down the hall.
Kate's sundress, worn when she was two, and bought by my husband at the Laura Ashley in London.

The first dress Kate wore, when she was 6 weeks old, to her older brother's Nursery School graduation.

What about you, what have you done with your children's baby clothes?

Top 5 Things I Love about Winter Decorating

1. Cozy throws and blankets. A definite must on a cold winter's night.

2. Birch. Nothing says winter like birch twigs, logs, branches, and even candles.

3. Roaring fires. Warmth and light!  Who could ask for anything more.

4. Eating by candle light.

5. Snow outside the window and frost on the window.  Nature's decorating at its best.

What about you?  What warms your heart in the winter?

    What's Wrong with this Picture?

Here's the door to our basement.  See the little note William put on it?

    Here's a closer view.

He put the sign up because our dog has discovered that there are "snacks" in the basement - leftover fishy crackers, chips that have fallen on the floor etc  - from when the kids watch TV.

The note sounds fine except ... he put the sign on the back of the door, so you can only see it when the door is shut.

This is all that you can see of the door unless you close it.

    Doh!
